Description
Fluke 5820A Oscilloscope Calibrator Repair
The Fluke 5820A is an oscilloscope calibrator — a metrology-grade source that generates precise fast-edge, leveled-sine, time-marker, and amplitude signals (through active heads) to calibrate oscilloscopes’ vertical, timebase, and bandwidth performance. Its faults concentrate in the active heads, the internal reference, the output stages, and the head/relay switching.
FlukeMeterRepair.com repairs and calibrates the Fluke 5820A for calibration labs servicing oscilloscopes.
Common Fluke 5820A problems we fix
- Output-accuracy / reference drift — the reference drifting so scope-cal signals are off, recalibrated against standards.
- Active-head faults — a head not producing correct fast-edge or leveled-sine signals, repaired.
- Output-stage / relay-switching faults — the routing not switching correctly, repaired.
- A function dead — an output path failed, often after a miswire, repaired.
- Communication or display faults.
FAQs
My 5820A head or output is faulty — fixable? Yes. Head, output-stage, and reference faults are repairable, then the calibrator is recalibrated so the scopes you calibrate are trustworthy, with a NIST-traceable certificate. (Send affected heads with the mainframe.)
Are the heads verified? Yes — heads and signals are checked against our standards.
Every repair includes NIST-traceable calibration and a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty. Email us or request service.

Our Fluke 5820A started generating several error codes and we could not reset them. Sent in for repair, and they did a great job repairing our calibrator.
